Description
A wonderful statement plant in landscaping thanks to its architectural qualities, this spineless columnar succulent is native to the tropical dry forests of southern Central and Southern Madagascar. It is shrub forming, tree-like and has highly segmented, cylindrical, spineless stems, sometimes likened to a string of sausages. Most of its branches rise from the base and arch out to form a shrub as wide as it is tall. Usually grows to around 1.2m tall. Tips of stems bear tiny yellow flowers in springtime and little red heart-shaped “fruits”.
Beautiful in a rock garden but can also be grown indoors. This species is quite fast growing and does well in full sun in free-draining soil. Note: All members of the genus Euphorbia produce a milky sap called latex that is toxic and can range from a mild irritant to very poisonous, so must be handled with care.
NOTE: Euphorbia’s are for ornamental purposes only. The milky sap can be toxic and can cause adverse reactions if it comes into contact with the skin or eyes. Do not ingest. Euphorbias do not typically require pruning or maintenance, but take care when handling.
