Variegated String of Buttons
Botanical Name: Crassula perfoliata varigata
Common Names: Variegated String of Buttons, Baby’s Necklace, Necklace Vine, Pagoda Plant, Stacked Crassula, Sekelblaarplakkie
Another pleasant characteristic of the String of Buttons are the mottled creamy white margins and variegation markings on the leaves, along with the small, white, star-shaped flowers that grow along the stems. This creates an eye catching contrast of colours whether in bloom or not.
This Crassula is native to South Africa where it will thrive in hot and dry climates. This can be easily replicated in Australian gardens by mixing sand with a good quality potting mix and allowing the plant to dry out between deep watering.
The Crassula species are susceptible to root rot and fungal diseases, so it is important that your succulent is never left to sit in water. We recommend the use of a good quality potting soil mixed with sand to create a well drained environment.
