Euphorbia platyclada, sometimes referred to as the “Dead Stick Plant”, is a unique succulent from the diverse Euphorbia family. Hailing from Madagascar, this peculiar plant is quite unlike most other succulents in its appearance.
Its branches are flat, with a brownish or grayish hue, closely resembling dried wood or dead plant matter. This deceiving appearance is a form of camouflage to blend in with its native surroundings, giving it its common name. The plant seldom produces leaves, and when it does, they are small and soon fall off, leaving the distinctive woody stems.
Notably, like other Euphorbias, it secretes a milky latex when cut or broken. This sap can be irritating to the skin and eyes, so caution is advised when handling. While not commonly used for any specific purpose, its distinctive appearance makes it a fascinating choice for collectors or those seeking a conversation piece for their succulent collection.
