The Echeveria ‘Golden Glow’, also known as the Golden Hen and Chicks, is a stunning succulent plant that can add a touch of elegance to any garden or indoor setting. Originally native to Central and Southern America, this plant can thrive in hot and dry climates, which can be replicated in Australian gardens by using a well-draining potting soil mixed with sand and protecting the succulent from extreme cold weather and frost.
While Echeveria love full sun, they can become sunburned in extreme conditions, resulting in burnt or brown-looking spots on their leaves. It is best to place your Echeveria in a location that receives morning to midday sun but is shaded during the hottest parts of the day in summer.
Echeveria prefer dry soil and can be susceptible to root and leaf rot, so it is essential to let the plant completely dry out between deep watering. It is recommended to water your Echeveria in the morning to allow the sun to help dry out the crown of the plant. Standing water is the leading cause of plant rot, so a quick shake or firm blow to your pot can help move water along.
The Golden Glow is a larger variety of Echeveria that can grow up to 45cm tall, with individual rosettes up to 25cm wide. Its pale green to yellow pointed spoon-shaped leaves can develop pink to red margins during the warmer months and when exposed to more direct sunlight, creating a gorgeous display of colors. With proper care, your Golden Glow Echeveria can thrive and add a beautiful touch to your home or garden.
