Golden Sedum (Sedum adolphi)
- Other Known Names: Sedum adolphi, Coppertone Stonecrop, Orange Stonecrop
- Genus: Sedum
- Species: adolphi
Aesthetic Description
Golden Sedum is pure sunshine in plant form. Its spoon-shaped leaves are stacked in open, rose-like rosettes along low, spreading stems. In bright light, the green base glows with golden-yellow tones, and the tips blush coral or orange, especially in cooler weather. Whether spilling from a bowl or edging a succulent bed, it brings warmth, light, and cheerful movement to every scene.
Scientific Description
Sedum adolphi is a trailing, mat-forming succulent in the Crassulaceae family, native to Mexico. It grows via branching stems with fleshy, slightly curved leaves arranged in rosettes. Flowers are small, white to pale yellow, and star-shaped, usually appearing in late spring or early summer. Though sometimes grouped with Sedum nussbaumerianum, it is generally distinguished by tighter rosettes and more golden foliage.
General Botanical Information
This sedum thrives in full sun and poor soil, rewarding neglect with vivid color and steady growth. It roots easily from dropped leaves or stem cuttings and can spread quickly when planted in the ground. Ideal for mixed bowls, sunny edges, or hanging planters.
