Major

Sedum dasyphyllum ‘Major’, commonly referred to simply as ‘Major’, is a robust variety of the Sedum species known for its dense, mat-forming growth habit. This succulent plant features small, round, blue-green leaves that can take on a purple hue in cooler temperatures or when slightly stressed. The leaves are tightly packed on trailing stems that spread out and can create a lush ground cover.

Originating from the Mediterranean, this plant is well-adapted to rocky soils and can thrive in poor, well-draining substrates. It’s an excellent choice for rock gardens, green roofs, or as a drought-tolerant ground cover. ‘Major’ prefers full sun to partial shade and requires minimal watering, making it a low-maintenance option for gardeners.

During the summer months, Sedum dasyphyllum ‘Major’ produces clusters of tiny, star-shaped white flowers that attract pollinators such as bees and butterflies. These blossoms add a delicate contrast to the foliage and can enhance the plant’s ornamental appeal.

As with many sedums, ‘Major’ is considered non-toxic and is generally safe around pets and children. However, it’s always a good practice to place plants out of reach to prevent any accidental ingestion. Its hardiness, ease of care, and attractive foliage make Sedum dasyphyllum ‘Major’ a popular choice for both novice and experienced gardeners.
