A slow growing evergreen stonecrop, Echeveria setosa are attractive houseplants which bear cute, spoon-shaped, mid-green leaves covered in dense white hair (setosa) forming stemless rosettes of fleshy leaves. Growing to a height of about 10cm and a spread of 50cm, they are typically appreciated for their dramatic foliage, though they do also bear small red, yellow-tipped flowers in summer. These flowers attract hummingbirds.
Native to Mexico, its common names include: Mexican Firecracker, Firecracker Plant, Firecracker Echeveria, or Hen and Chicks.
Liking warmth, they are best grown in well-drained compost in a sunny spot on the patio (avoiding full afternoon sun), and brought indoors for the cooler seasons. A low maintenance, forgiving houseplant as long as it is not over-watered.
