Purple Heart

Native to Mexico, this spectacular plant is a vigorous houseplant and groundcover which features distinctive vibrant purple shades. With violet, V-shaped leaves, bright purple stems, and showy clusters of pink flowers, this tender perennial gives every garden a burst of gorgeous colour. The trailing habit makes it a perfect choice for hanging baskets where stems will drape over edges. An evergreen perennial which hugs the ground thanks to its spreading habit, it reaches a height of about 25cm and its spread ranges to 40cm.

Easy to grow as a houseplant in a sunny spot, or as an accent plant in beds, windowboxes and planters. Whether grown in the garden as an annual, in containers or as a year round houseplant, it’s easily grown in moist, rich soil that is well-draining. Place in full sun (which will bring out the deepest colours) to part shade and water moderately. Shelter from wind as stems are fragile.
