Red Mistletoe Cactus (Rhipsalis erythrocarpa)
- Other Known Names: Rhipsalis erythrocarpa
- Genus: Rhipsalis
- Species: erythrocarpa
Aesthetic Description
Red Mistletoe Cactus is the jewel-toned drapery of the jungle. Its slim, cylindrical stems cascade in soft green ropes, weaving and branching with gentle curves. The real surprise, though, is the fruit — round, glossy red berries that dangle like droplets from the foliage, giving it a festive, almost ornamental look. With its understated elegance and occasional pops of colour, this Rhipsalis brings a little wild beauty to even the most curated plant shelf.
Scientific Description
Rhipsalis erythrocarpa is a tropical epiphytic cactus from the Cactaceae family, native to the Atlantic forests of Brazil. It produces long, slender, spineless stems that grow in clumps and drape downward. Small, white to pinkish flowers emerge along mature stems, followed by striking red fruit — a key feature that gives the species its name (erythro = red, carpa = fruit).
General Botanical Information
Well suited to hanging containers and shaded greenhouse spaces, this species prefers warm, humid environments and dappled light. It thrives in epiphytic conditions with well-draining, airy substrate. Completely non-toxic and ideal for trailing jungle-style displays.
