Echeveria runyonii, commonly known as “Topsy Turvy,” is a species of the Echeveria genus celebrated for its unique and intriguing leaf formation. This succulent stands out due to its leaves that curve or curl downwards, giving the rosette an “inside-out” or “upturned” appearance. The leaves are thick, fleshy, and have a powdery blue-gray hue, which can take on a pinkish tint when exposed to strong sunlight.

Originating from Mexico, Echeveria runyonii, like other Echeverias, thrives in well-draining soil. It prefers bright light, and while it can handle some direct sunlight, it’s essential to ensure it doesn’t get sunburned. Being a drought-tolerant plant, it requires minimal watering. It’s crucial to let the soil dry out completely between waterings to prevent root rot.

One of the delightful features of Echeveria runyonii is its ability to produce tall flower stalks that rise above the rosette. These stalks bear coral-orange, bell-shaped flowers that can attract pollinators when planted outdoors.

In terms of precautions, Echeveria runyonii is generally considered non-toxic, but as with all plants, it’s recommended to keep it out of reach of pets and children. Its distinctive “Topsy Turvy” appearance, combined with its low maintenance requirements, makes Echeveria runyonii a favorite choice among succulent enthusiasts and a unique addition to any plant collection.
