Description
This is the variegated form of the most common commercial Sanseviera and is a great, low maintenance, attractive houseplant. An evergreen succulent which forms a tight clump of upward facing, sword-like dark green leaves, its colouring is variegated by its lighter grey-green, zig-zagging, horizontal bands and its yellow striped margins. Flowering is rare but occasionally it will reward with clusters of fragrant greenish white flowers.
Considered a ‘diehard’ houseplant which is remarkably long-lived, it is very durable and tolerant of many growing conditions, including being root-bound in low light, which makes it very well suited indoors. It also has a reputation for improving the air quality in homes or offices.
This plant has a number of common names, including: Striped Mother-in-law’s Tongue, Variegated Mother-in-law’s Tongue, Variegated Snake Plant, Devil’s Tongue, African Spear, Bow String Hemp, Bowstring Hemp, Striped Snake Plant, Good Luck Plant, Goldband Sansevieria, Viper’s Bowstring Hemp, Magic Sword and Laurentii Snake Plant.
